What is Photo on Canvas?

Photo on Canvas

Photo to canvas is a picture printed on a canvas material. Based on a traditional photo print, digital image photography or a scanned image. By taking a supplied photo or scanning it and printing it on canvas you will see your original photo in a new, different way. As opposed to a photo printed on photo paper, the canvas gives it a more artistic and historical feel. If you have photos that you want to highlight and showcase, printing them on canvas is a great idea instead of burying your photo in an album.

When printing a photo onto canvas, you have the options for many sizes to choose from. You can have your canvas photo printed on canvas in many style choices and Photoshop techniques like Sepia or Light Brush strokes - so whether you like the modern or the classic look, it's up to you to decide how your photos are printed on canvas. Older images can even be restored or touched up before they are put on canvas to help restore them to their original quality.

Gallery Wrap

Another benefit for printing on canvas is that you can have it framed.

A type of stretching Sign*A*Rama Skokie can use is called a gallery wrap, stretching your digitally printed canvas image to a wooden frame structure.  With a gallery wrap you can hang the canvas directly on the wall, no mounting or framing is needed.

With a gallery wrap, 1" of the canvas is wrapped around the edge. When ordering a wrapped canvas, please be sure to take this into consideration so that nothing important will be cropped out of the picture. The image can wrap around the sides. This works great if there is enough space around your main subject. If not, it will look from the front as if it were cropped too much.

Sign*A*Rama can clone the background of the image on one or more edges using Photoshop.

Sign*A*Rama can print a solid color or color with texture on the sides. The color can be black or the same as some color in the image.

Sign*A*Rama can stretch the outer 1-2 inches on one or more sides to become twice as wide.

Sign*A*Rama can make a mirror image of the outer 1-2 inches on one or more sides.

For one example of our work with Photo to Canvas-

In May of 2008 Sign*A*Rama in Skokie, IL produced 29 digital canvas prints stretched and mounted to a 1" frame gallery wrap. The sizes varied from 48" x 18" to 60" x 40". Not only did we produce the canvas prints from start to finish but also added text to the images as well as color corrected the background sky, photoshoped a picture within a picture and cropped out unwanted images.
